According to the dictionary, Snoring is rough sound that is a result of vibrations of different tissues in the upper airway. Narrow passages in the upper airway cause the air passing through it to become turbulent during inspiration. These passages sometimes become more narrow as a result of a partial blockage. These blockages can be situated anywhere in the upper airway (nose, mouth, throat or even vocal cords). The narrowing of the passages can occur throughout the day though they are usually made worst at night time when a person sleeps.
The reason why snoring occurs while sleeping is that muscle tone is completely reduced while sleeping and as a result the muscles in the throat area start to collapse creating a narrow passage through which the air must pass at the same speed as before (you need to continue breathing just as much while sleeping). As a result turbulence is created and that is the snoring sound that is heard.
Though it was once thought that the tongue only had a minor role in snoring sufferers, we now know that this is in fact incorrect and that the base of the tongue plays a big part in snoring patients.
Snoring is never 100% cured though it can be controlled so well that it might feel as though one is cured. Any type of snoring is caused by some sort of physical problem and to be able to treat yourself you first need to know what causes the snoring, only then can you find a treatment that is right for your specific problem. The good news is that there are less than ten major causes for snoring and therefore 99% of snoring problems can be diagnosed and treated.
Here at Snoring Stop, we have decided to review the different treatments available for those who seek treatments that don't involve invasive surgery and who don't want to spend thousands of dollars on expensive medical treatment.
